Position Summary
The Director of Content Strategy develops and implements a strategic plan for a comprehensive and collaborative engagement and fundraising program in support of South Dakota State University. This role executes a multichannel strategy that includes video content, email communications, digital campaigns, social fundraising initiatives, and the student engagement program. In addition to advancing loyalty giving, the position plays a key role in strengthening the organizational pipeline and enhancing alumni engagement. The Director provides leadership to a dynamic team that supports the goals of the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Content Management and Leadership
Associate or bachelor's degree is preferred but not required. At least five years of professional experience in related fields (such as digital media, communications, graphic design, journalism sales, public relations, fundraising, higher education, or alumni relations) is required. Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

Qualified individuals will possess the following:
Requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and some lifting. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone, and other office and/or clerical equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Content Management and Leadership
- Lead a team committed to strategic, scalable, personalized engagement through dynamic and creative multichannel communications.
- Evaluate and maximize creative content including news releases, articles, brochures, presentations, event support materials, print, mail, email, website, video, and social media.
- Measure and assess the performance of campaigns across multiple channels and outreach efforts, providing feedback, recommendations, and proposing solutions to improve results.
- Coordinate with department directors to promote and celebrate South Dakota State University and the SDSU Foundation.
- Uphold the standards of the SDSU Foundation especially pertaining to quality control and other elements that impact relationships with donors and campus partners through annual giving activities.
- Collaborate with teams to develop compelling and cohesive content, messaging, and branding for digital communication.
- Execute setup and coordination of social fundraising initiatives and collaborate with campus partners on those initiatives as needed.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of the annual giving day, One Day for STATE, especially related to website content and social and campus ambassadors.
- Facilitate relationships to generate ongoing support with campus community and auxiliary programs.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet the organization’s needs.

- Proficient experience using the most recent versions of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (i.e. MSWord, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
